The feat came barely a week after SPO2 Charlito Corpuz shot dead three robbers during an encounter inside an air-conditioned bus.
Superintendent Ericson Velasquez, Mandaluyong City police chief, said that PO1 Edgar Antipasado, assigned at the intelligence division of the Mandaluyong City police, saw the suspect, Michael Mendoza, 27, divesting at knifepoint a bus passenger of her cellular phone.
The suspect quickly jumped off the bus but Antipasado gave chase and caught him. However, Mendoza allegedly tried to grab Antipasados gun which accidentally went off hitting him in the abdomen. He was rushed to the Mandaluyong City Medical Center for treatment.
Velasquez commended Antipasado for "a job well done."
Mendoza will be charged with robbery, said Velasquez. Non Alquitran
