Belmonte calls for closer police-community relations

Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. has called on officers and men of the Central Police District Police Command (CPDC) to strengthen their ties with the community to get the full confidence and cooperation of the people in their respective areas of jurisdiction.

In a recent staff meeting, the mayor stressed that winning the hearts and mind of the people is crucial in the fight against all forms of criminality.

"Let us work harder in ensuring the safety and protection of the city residents, especially against robbers and holdup men," Belmonte said.

The mayor emphasized that the ultimate objective of the police is to help make the city a model of peace and order not only in Metro Manila but throughout the country.

To achieve this, Belmonte rallied the police to strengthen their relations with the community particularly in depressed areas where suspected criminals usually seek refuge.

He also called on members of the Barangay Security Development Office (BSDO) to interact with people who may volunteer information on criminal activities and ordered the CPD to deploy more policemen in crime prone areas to deter criminals from carrying out their modus operandi.

Although Quezon City has registered a 95 percent crime solution rate in the past several months, criminal gangs from various parts of Metro Manila occasionally carry out their operations in the city.
