Cop killer falls in Marikina

A manhunt of over a year by the Marikina police finally led to the arrest of a suspect accused of having killed one of their own last year in Marikina City Friday night.

Members of the Marikina Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team almost engaged Jack Zacaria, 51, native of Lanao del Norte, and resident of Singkamas street, Tumana, Barangay Concepcion Uno, Marikina in a gunbattle. The officers claimed the suspect tried to draw his gun upon being surrounded at around 11:30 p.m.

Fortunately for Zacaria, the arresting SWAT men used other means to nab the suspect despite his attempt to pull out his caliber 32 revolver.

Found in the possession of Zacaria was his unlicensed gun with eight live ammunition and an ingenious "pen gun."

Zacaria has been the subject of a long manhunt by operatives of the Marikina police for allegedly shooting dead Senior Police Officer 1 Rodolfo Samaniego in August 2002 during an anti-drug operation at the Tumana area in Marikina.

An arrest warrant has long been issued by a Marikina trial court against Zacaria for Samaniego’s killing.

It was learned that the Marikina police was tipped off of Zacaria’s reappearance in the Tumana area recently. He was said to have come back in Marikina from hiding for more than a year in his native province Lanao del Norte after the killing of Samaniego.
