According to the Arson Unit of the Manila Fire Department, the blaze started from one of the affected shanties along Road 10 at 5:48 a.m. The fire then quickly spread to the other shanties. It did not take long before the fire reached the fifth alarm and saw firefighters rushed to the scene from various fire stations in Manila, Malabon and Navotas.
At 6:30 a.m., firefighters managed to contain and put out the fire. There were no reported casualties or injured in the fire.
Initial investigation showed that the fire could have been caused by a lighted candle that was left unattended inside one of the houses. Mike Frialde
