Victim Phillip Maniego, of Lower Jazman, Commonwealth, sustained multiple bullet wounds in the head and died on the spot.
The killers, armed with a handgun of still unknown caliber, fled right after the shooting. Police have ruled out robbery in the case as no valuable from the victim were taken.
Sources said that the assailants may have shot Maniego "just for kicks."
They added that the group may have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident at about 8:30 p.m.
Initial reports showed that the incident happened at a dimly-lit alley near the victims home in Barangay Commonwealth. Maniego apparently went outside at the said time to take out the garbage.
Maniegos wife, who was inside the house, then heard three gunshots. When she went outside to check, she found her husband lying on the ground.
Maniego suffered three bullet wounds in the right side of his head. Operatives of the Central Police District are now conducting follow-up operations.
Meanwhile, authorities are now hunting at least three armed men after they shot dead a 29-year-old man inside his home in Quezon City early yesterday morning.
The victim, identified as Fred Tugay, of Florentino Street, Manila Compound in Barangay Gulod, was sleeping inside his room when the incident took place at about 2:30 a.m.
Investigators said the gunmen gained entry to the victims house by destroying a locked door. They went straight to Tugays room where they found him sound asleep. Matthew Estabillo
