Inday death toll now 26; 14 missing

MANILA, Philippines — The death toll from Typhoon Inday increased to 26 yesterday with at least 14 people still missing.
Of the fatalities, 10 were reported in Sarangani, seven in Lanao del Sur, four in Davao Occidental, two each in Zamboanga Sibugay and Bukidnon, and one in Iloilo.
Five of those missing were reported in Davao Occidental, four in Lanao del Sur, two each in Zamboanga del Sur and Sarangani, and one in Maguindanao del Sur.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said that search, rescue and retrieval operations are ongoing.
Rains spawned by Inday and the enhanced monsoon had displaced over 244,000 families as of yesterday.
More than 5,000 families are staying in 86 different evacuation centers in the Bangsamoro region, Soccsksargen and Western Visayas.
Food and non-food assistance amounting to P73 million have been distributed to typhoon victims, the NDRRMC said.
