CEBU, Philippines - Residents in barangay Tipolo in Mandaue City with the help of some employees of San Miguel Corporation helped clean the Tipolo creek of oil that spilled Monday from SMC itself.
Barangay Tipolo captain Restituto Villanueva said the oil spill was discovered when residents extended help in unclogging the creek after a flood Monday dawn due to heavy rainfall.
But while cleaning, they found black liquid flowing in the creek and discovered it came from San Miguel Corp.
Villanueva said an employee of the company confirmed that the oil spill came from SMC.
He said the bunker oil contained in barrels spilled as floodwater entered the SMC plant. - THE FREEMAN
