CEBU, Philippines - The city council of Naga has approved a resolution requesting the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to conduct regular pruning and trimming of “all the trees along the national highway.”
The approval was in response to Mayor Val Chiong’s request following the collapse of a century-old Acacia tree fell in barangay Langtad last month, which caused heavy traffic in the area.
City administrator Arthur Villamor had earlier said that since the city has many old trees along its highway, the trimming might as well start to prevent any untoward incident in the future.
Villamor said the city however needs the assistance of the Bureau of Forestry to help them evaluate which trees need to be uprooted, if necessary.
