CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Anti-Illegal Fishing Task Force apprehended early morning the other day in barangay Cot-Cot, Liloan a truck full of lumber estimated to be worth P350,000 instead of illegally caught fish.
Assorted lumber which were to be transported to Mandaue City from Medellin town was apprehended by the team of Geofrey Merencilla, field coordinator of the task force.
Merencilla said the permit showed by driver Vicente Verallo, of barangay Pulangbato, Cebu City was in order but the volume that was in the truck exceeded the allowable number.
The permit showed that Verallo was supposed to convey 2,500 trees but upon the rescaling by the representative of a Department of Environment and Natural Resources showed the volume exceeded more than 6,000.
Merencilla said his team was in barangay Cot-Cot when a Fuso truck bearing GXG-386 covered with tarpaulin appeared.
The team suspected the truck was carrying blasted fish.
Merencilla said the Germilina, Mahogany, Ipil-Ipil, and the truck were turned over to the DSWD yesterday morning.
