Jonas turns over eight Armalite rifles to MCPO

CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes yesterday turned over eight Armalite rifles worth P800,000 to the Mandaue City Police Office.

The firearms are locally manufactured by the Safariland Arms Corporation based in barangay Umapad,Mandaue city.

The armory consists of six M-4 armalite rifles and two M-4 assault rifles of which Cortes has turned over to SPO2 Mario Retuya sa supply officer of MCPO.

Cortes said the police need to be well prepared for any eventuality.

Buying from Safariland was the city's way of patronizing Mandaue's own products.

He said firearms made by Safari are tested and has the capability to manufacture, being a licensed gun maker.

The local police will also receive additional mobile patrol cars.

MCPO was recently adjudged as the best police station in Central Visayas and the fourth in the entire country.

He cited the city government's generosity for giving motorcycles, cars, and guns which all contributed to achieving the accolade.

Cortes commended the city police under the leadership of MCPO director P Sr./Supt Noel Gillamac for achieving such recognition and assured them of more logistical support from the city government. - THE FREEMAN
