CEBU, Philippines- More than 200 children from the different barangays of Liloan town availed yesterday of free circumcision and dental services provided by the Aboitiz Foundation, Inc.
The whole day medical-dental mission was held at the Panphil D. Frasco Memorial Gym in Liloan town.
Sonny Carpio, executive vice president of the Aboitiz Foundation, Inc, said the activity was a first in Cebu and picked Liloan because some of the company's businesses are located in the town.
Carpio said the same activity dubbed as "Astig Ka Boy" was successful in other provinces and the foundation decided to initiate it in the municipality.
He said the activity is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility of the company through the Aboitiz Foundation, Inc.
Boys aged 6 years old and above who underwent circumcision come from 14 barangays that have been beneficiaries of some of the foundation's projects such as microfinance packages and water systems.
Volunteer surgeons, dentists, nurses, midwives, and barangay health workers attended to the patients while employees from Aboitiz Equity Ventures provided assistance.
The Cebu Provincial Health Office and nurses from the University of Cebu and University of San Jose Recoletos also joined the activity.
Two more medical-dental missions are being planned this year.
The Aboitiz Foundation is the corporate foundation of the Aboitiz Group with social development initiatives focused on the areas of education, enterprise development, primary health and child care, and the environment.
