CEBU, Philippines - The Lapu-Lapu City council yesterday approved a resolution allocating P750,000, as financial assistance to the 30 barangays in the city that will participate the inter-barangay sports competitions and the Kadaugan Street Party.
The city council approved the amount in response to Mayor Paz Radaza’s request for a budget.
City Councilor Harry Don Radaza said sports activities are always featured every year in celebration of the “Kadaugan sa Mactan.”
He said this year the city is introducing “Kadaugan Street Party” to draw more visitors.
Meanwhile, the city council also adopted a separate resolution requesting Mayor Paz Radaza to close down the portion of M. L. Quezon Highway especially from the old Mactan Bridge to Marcelo Fernan Bridge on April 29 at 7 p.m. and May 1 at 8:00 a.m. in connection with the celebration of the “Kadaugan sa Mactan.”
The reenactment of the Great Battle of Mactan will be held on April 27and that a weeklong celebration shall be observed which will kickoff on April 25.
The resolution further said that major and significant activities have been prepared to make such celebration more memorable, meaningful, and successful consi-dering that this is the first time that a series of major events have been organized.
It said one of the highlights of the celebration is the “Kadaugan Street Party” to be supported by a car show, rampada dance showdown, tricycle contest, live band concerts, and other exciting and historical activities.
The event needs ample space and area to accommodate the activities in one contiguous location for residents and tourists to experience a variety of activities in one whole festive atmosphere.
The ideal venue for the event would be a portion of M.L. Quezon National Highway which necessitates to be closed during the entire duration of the event to give adequate space and area and for safety and security of the participating public. – THE FREEMAN
