2 Vietnamese nabbed for illegal practice of medicine 

MANILA, Philippines — Police filed criminal cases against two Vietnamese who were arrested for practicing medicine without a license.

Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group director, said yesterday the suspects, whom he identified only as Linh and Phuong, were charged for violation of Republic Act 2382 (Medical Act of 1959) for misrepresenting themselves as licensed doctors.

The suspects were arrested in a cosmetics clinic along Don Roces Avenue in Quezon City on Wednesday.

Torre said the foreigners told an undercover operative that they could perform breast and buttocks augmentation procedures as well as dispense prescription drugs, despite lacking the necessary licenses and permits to practice medicine.

Police confiscated assorted medical products and prescription drugs, including collagen, injectables, botulinum toxin, disposable syringes, Juvederm fillers, Amoxicillin, Tranexamic Acid, Telfast HD and other medical supplies valued at P500,000.

“We encourage the public to report any illegal practice of medicine and other criminal activities in your localities,” Torre said in a statement as he warned the public against seeking medical procedures from people posing as medical professionals.
