MANILA, Philippines – When in Paris, do as the Parisians do, especially when chic beauty looks are involved. We scour the latest trends at Paris Fashion Week.
Power Ponytails
This season, elevate the simple ponytail with hair stylist GuidoPalau’s double take on the tried-and-tested style. On one hand, low and loosely tied tresses for Balenciaga evoked a soft femininity. On the other, his Sade-inspired version for Celine — pulled back and tightly braided, channeling the look of the ‘80s English chanteuse — means serious business. We also love stylist Sam McKnight’s sexy pony for Balmain as he came up with a
super slick, sky-high style that came out swingin’.
Age Of Romance
Love is in the air, at least when the runway’s romantic makeup looks are concerned. At Christian Dior, pale pink lids complemented glossy pink lips while dewy, radiant skin gave Alexander Wang’s muses a soft glow at his final show for Balenciaga. Mea while, Alexander McQueen’s ultra-feminine pairing — flushed cheeks and coral-colored puckers — has us feeling totally smitten. We’re seeing a rosy outlook for spring.
Super Vision
We’re calling it: Scene-stealing stares are going to be beauty’s biggest eye openers this spring. Maison Margiela goes for heavy metal with silver rock ‘n’ roll shapes drawn around the eyes, Dries van Noten draws the line with glitter blue liner placed only in the middle of the lids, Issey Miyake gets creative with paint splats (achieved by blowing bright pigments on models’ faces via a straw), and Chanel soars with sunnies-shaped sky blue eyeshadow.
Hair Apparent
Let your locks be the mane attraction — take your cues from the French fashion houses and up your hair game with fun decorative accents. Low pigtails are secured with silver barrettes at Chanel, off-kilter chignons are strung with silk bows at Lanvin, super long strands are accented with Sailor Moon-esque tiaras at Louis Vuitton, and Hedi Slimane’s punk princesses topped their crowning glory with, well, jewel-encrusted crowns at Saint Laurent.
The Dark Side
Pucker up — the buzz is on the statement lip as it puts deliciously dark hues on the spotlight this season. While the classic Coca-Cola crimson gets the high-shine treatment at Nina Ricci, a desert-inspired bronzy brown was custom-blended and slicked over with gloss at Kenzo. Feeling adventurous? Take inspiration from the cool Miu Miu girl and experiment with deep cherry and plum shades to create a gothic ombré lip.
