MANILA, Philippines - If tonight was your last night on earth, what would be your fondest memories? Would you feel ready to say goodbye to those you love, or would you regret all the broken relationships you failed to mend? Would you be satisfied with the legacy you’re leaving behind or would you struggle to remember the last great thing you did?
A New Brain dives into the human mind and portrays each character as a manifestation of the Id, Ego and Superego. The story is full of themes of self-discovery, acceptance, and change, but focused on the importance of personal relationships and fleeting time. The Ateneo Blue Repertory’s staging of A New Brain will take the audience on a surreal journey into the depths of the psyche and inspire them to reflect on life.
A New Brain follows the story of a disillusioned yet talented songwriter named Gordon Schwinn who is diagnosed with a rare medical condition that sends him into a coma and could potentially end his life. Throughout the musical, Gordon’s greatest fear is dying with his greatest songs still inside him, so he writes them from his hospital bed while going through a series of surreal dreams. After finally having the surgery and recovering fully, he rekindles the relationships he previously neglected, and ultimately realizes the value of his life.
