Environmental awareness is increasingly becoming a concern for everyone.
Preview’s editor-in-chief Pauline Juan says, “The very essence of fashion goes against being green because you always want to buy something new. But that’s precisely the challenge we pose to our guests and readers: How do you apply this advocacy to your wardrobe?”
Preview’s best-dressed ladies this year interpreted the theme wearing various shades of green, nature-inspired pieces and floral ensembles, and sported the latest fashion trends in earth-friendly materials like canvas and linen. Some even wore old outfits they had reworked, while others wore vintage clothing. Going green can come in the form of conserving raw materials and recycling.
The 2008 Best Dressed List is an annual style file composed of women whose individual styles are worth celebrating. Making this year’s list are interior designer Anna Angara; model Ria Bolivar; model and soccer player Isabelle Daza; bag and interior designer Mai Kaufmann; model-turned-businesswoman; jewelry and accessories designer and image consultant Joyce Oreña; entrepreneur and aspiring designer Crystal Ozamis; and TV host, actress and model Angel Aquino, who also graced the cover of Preview’s current issue.
Ria Bolivar
Ria wears a white Filipiniana-inspired Ignacio Loyola dress, which has recycled items in the details. The accessories, shoes and bag are old items from her closet.
Angel Aquino
Angel wears a “recycled” Michelle Sison dress. The denim part of the dress is an old bikini top that she couldn’t wear anymore because the strap’s hook broke. The only part that Michelle Sison added was the yellow details of the dress. Her accessories are from Jewelmer and the bag is a food sack you can get from the supermarket, which she jazzes up with pins, buttons and cute appliqués. You can see the party’s “go green” theme reflected in the way she reuses a lot of things for this outfit.
Anna Angara
Anna is wearing a Rajo Laurel dress that he made for her for an earlier event, and she wears it again for this one. The earrings are from her mom, the cuff is by Arnel Papa, the bag is from YSL and the shoes are from Steve Madden. She went green by not buying a new outfit for tonight.
Isabelle Daza
Belle wears a Rhett Eala dress, Michael Kors shoes and a belt from her mom. The dress has nets, feathers and other items that are all recycled.
Mai Kaufmann
Mai is in a Jun Escario creation, while the shoes are from Hong Kong. Her outfit is made out of organic fabrics and is embellished with recycled old materials like peacock feathers.
Joyce Orena
Joyce is wearing a Dirk Bikkembergs piece and Dries Van Noten wrap and pants that she picked up during her travels. The outfit is made of natural fabric, they’re cotton silk pieces that will last a long time. The jewelry is from her very own line, JÔ, and the Gucci wedges are a vintage find.
Crystal Ozamis
This is an old dress of hers. It used to be a long gown and she reworked it for the event, her contribution to the “go green” theme. The earrings are from a bazaar and the bracelet is from her mom.
