MANILA, Philippines - Cosplay Mania is the biggest annual celebration of Cosplay enthusiasts in the country. Now in the fourth year of the Cosplay Tournament of Champions, it broke attendance records as Cosplay fans from around the country watched the grand finals of its nationwide cosplay contest. With preliminary legs held in eight key cities including Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Baguio, Cavite, Davao, North Edsa, Bacolod and Manila, the competition featured nine teams in the spectacular grand finals held recently at Cosplay Mania ‘13 at the SMX Convention Center Manila in Pasay City.
Team Cuddle Club Buddies — Rommil Donair, Jr. from Butuan and Krislyn Branzuela from Cebu — beat out eight other heavy hitters from around the country and represented the Philippines at the Asian Regional Cosplay Championships tin Singapore’s Anime Festival Asia (AFA) held in November, where the team emerged with the 1st runner-up prize. The team competed against Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the defending champions, Singapore. The Indonesian team secured the top spot while Singapore landed the 2nd Runner-up trophy.
Organized by Cosplay.ph or Cosplay Philippines, the tournament trains and develops local cosplay talent here in the Philippines and prepares them for the tough competition circuit abroad. Other supporters like Brother International Philippine Corporation, David’s Salon, JBL, Animax, 99.5 Play FM, SM Supermalls and SM Cyberzone as well as the Department of Foreign Affairs allow Filipino cosplayers to show their abilities abroad in foreign competitions.
