Supreme spotted: Pinoys continue to make their mark in global fashion

MANILA, Philippines - Everywhere in the world, the Filipino continues to represent. In the middle of the New York Fashion Week brouhaha, 16-year-old Filipina supermodel Charlene Almarvez conquers the runways of top designers from all over the world. Charlene is fresh from her 1st runner-up victory at the Ford Supermodel of the World search, a contest where CalCarrie’s founder Joey Espiono has been fielding Filipina candidates for many years now. “I am so glad that Filipinos are finally making it,” says Espino.

Rajo Laurel’s web dress, previously seen on Manila socialites and movie stars, has landed the cover of Women’s Wear Daily, a fashion bible for industry style setters. Wynn Wynn Ong’s accessories have also landed this coveted spot. “I’m so thrilled to find out about it I couldn’t even finish my e-mail! This is perfect timing as I’m about to show my fall collection in New York for Fashion Week,” says Rajo, elated over his newest fashion feather.

In this month’s US Vogue, blogger and Philippine STAR On the Radar columnist Bryanboy, or Bryan Yambao, has landed on the fashion bible’s pages as “the new fashion front row,” alongside other influential bloggers such as Tommy Ton and Grance Dore. Currently in New York for Fashion Week, he is seen with such industry bigwigs as Anna Wintour and Carine Roitfeld. How’s that for leveling?

The Pinoy fashion plate has definitely come of age, and the world is taking notice.

Mabuhay, Pinoy fashionista!
