MANILA, Philippines - Acclaimed bag and accessories designer Amina Aranaz-Alunan lends her creative magic in creating a modern workspace inspired by Ethan Allen’s design philosophy, New Eclecticism.
“I wanted to have an inspiring office space for me, and one where I could also entertain visiting clients and guests. I love Ethan Allen’s New Eclecticism theme, which is also my style because I’m not strict in following design styles as I love mixing things up,” says Aranaz.
Combining clean lines with stunning furnishings and accents, Aranaz’s rendition is sensible and classy, and uses every inch of the space.
“I see my design as a space that could work as a home office as well as my main office. I really like workspaces that are like an extension of my home. I would love to work in a space that is very homey, comfortable and sophisticated, not ‘cold’ and minimalist. I want a workspace that would enhance my creativity,” Aranaz enthused.
Aranaz said she loves beautiful pieces — with each intricate item “speaking a story of their own” and at the same time complement one another. “It’s this Vivianne Serpentine Console that I was first attracted to when I saw it. This one has a bit of Oriental and French, and that became the jump-off point.” she noted.
Using a lot of neutrals, varying shades of grays, khakis and greens, Aranaz says, “What I noticed in modern spaces, there are usually neutrals, and then they would have some bright accents, like a bold color. As a designer and homeowner, I want an interior design that’s timeless and classy,” she stressed.
Power and elegance befittingly describe the visually arresting impact of Aranaz’s design installation. Among the tasteful furniture pieces include the Emily Desk, a smartly designed, three-drawer classic table desk with rounded corners and European-style fluted legs that looks charming in any room.
Extending the exquisite feel of grandeur while sitting pretty and in control is the Chrystiane Armchair, a French-inspired chair that gives the space an air of regal femininity.
Apart from shiny metallics — in the form of mirrored trays and other accent pieces, Aranaz melded soft textural elements to the office space to add warmth. For posh relaxation, she went for the Emerson chair, a chic seat inspired by the classic wingback chair that has sinuous sloped arms and a clean silhouette.
One of her many personal Ethan Allen favorites, is the Jocelyn Étagère, an open-ribbed, Old Hollywood-ish functional display with repeating architectural “X” motif which also served as a versatile statement piece to enhance the room. Accompanying it is the black-and-gold painted Chinoiserie Accent Table that further glamorized the workspace.
Bringing nature inside the office space is one of the charming highlights in Aranaz’s design installation. Subtle, organic and natural accents, made the rendition natural, calming and invigorating to the senses, according to Aranaz. Asian-inspired porcelain tabletop accessories, like the Annabelle Large Jar are also lavishly interwoven for that dramatic artisanal touch.
