DEAR EPPY,
I really need your help. I am a twenty-five-year-old male and I have a problem that is so difficult to share with anyone. Like all young men, I would like to experience sex without feeling bad about anything. But I don’t know if I am able to truly experience sex like most men.
You see, when my organ gets hard, it points downwards. I am so embarrassed that I find it difficult to want to have sex with a woman because the first thing on my mind is that the woman will laugh at me because of my organ. Do some men really have this kind of problem? I don’t know of any reason why my organ would be this way. Am I born with this?
Please help me. I’m desperate to find a solution.
DESPERATE MAN
DEAR DESPERATE MAN,
First of all, you need to understand that I am not a medical doctor. I believe that your concern is medical. You need to consult with a medical doctor to give you a proper diagnosis of your problem. The doctor will then give you a solution.
Your concern is similar to the condition called Peyronie’s Disease. In the article of Paulis, Ascenzo, Nupieri, De Giorgio, Orsolini, Brancato, Alvaro, and Gentile entitled “Effectiveness of antioxidants (propolis, blueberry, vitamin E) associated with verapamil in the medical management of Peyronie’s Disease: a study of 151 cases,†Peyronie’s Disease is described as an inflammartory condition that results in the curving of the organ while it is erect.
Paulis, et.al. mentions that the other characteristics of Peyronie’s Disease are pain in the organ, having difficulty during sexual intercourse, and the deformity of the organ. There is no mention that Peyronie’s Disease can be present during birth. In fact, they say that there is no known reason why this condition or disorder occurs. However, present studies seem to point to penile trauma as a reason for this.
The question is how can penile trauma occur? Let’s dissect the male sexual organ to understand how this can happen. There are three areas inside the organ that are called tubes. One of the tubes is the urethra. This is the tube that allows the urine to pass to exit the body. The other two tubes are called the corpora cavernosa. These two tubes are the things that make the organ erect. When you get excited, this area becomes filled with blood causing the erection.
You can’t have three tubes sticking out of your body. You will look like an alien if you have three tubes sticking out of your body. So there’s this thing called tunica albuginea. This is the “material†that wraps the three tubes into one. The way I understand it, it is this “material†that changes when there is an injury to your organ. The injury causes a scar in the tunica albuginea, which results in the bending of the organ to one side. It can bend upwards, downwards, to the left, or to the right.
The organ can be injured during sex. For example, if you have sexual intercourse and you hit another part of the body of a woman, resulting in your organ suddenly being bent.
I guess another way of injuring your organ is if you wear very tight underwear and a tight pair of pants. Really, it will be so painful if you even try to sit down. If you feel that pain, then you will have an injury.
Can you do something about your organ bending downward? There are so many studies done about this. Experiments are done to see if non-surgical procedures can be done to correct this problem. The best thing to do is to go to your doctor, called a urologist, to help you with this.
To acknowledge your concern about your partner’s reaction, I do agree that this can be embarrassing and it can lead to rejection by your partner. But this is something that the two of you will have to deal with. Talk about it. A caring and understanding partner will help you feel better about the whole thing while finding solutions to this problem. You do need to find solutions because, in time, it will be difficult and painful to have sex with a super bended organ. It can actually worsen if not attended to. So visit your urologist as soon as you can.
