No more hats, bandanas and wigs

MANILA, Philippines - Singer and songwriter Abby Asistio gained a lot of admiration when, in 2012, she decided to “come out” literally, from under her hats, bandanas, and wigs, and revealed to the world that underneath all that, she was bald.  Abby suffers from alopecia areata, an auto-immune skin disease resulting in partial or complete loss of hair on the scalp and the rest of the body.

In Abby’s case, she started losing her hair when she was four years old. Eventually, she decided to just shave it off completely. She had tried numerous hair loss remedies, including chemical-based products, even while she lived in the US for a time, but nothing worked.

Then, just when she was starting to feel comfortable “embracing her baldness,” the universe threw her another curve ball. She learned about Novuhair. Well-meaning friends encouraged her to try it. That was in March 2013.

By September, she noticed the first growths.

“It was the first time since I was diagnosed with the disease that I actually saw hair growing on my scalp. I’ve never stopped using Novuhair since,” Abby remarks.

“Novuhair, a topical scalp lotion, is a unique combination of natural herbs, essential oils and nutrients, which helps prevent excessive hair fall, aids in stimulating hair growth, and improves the overall cosmetic properties of the hair,” explains Novuhair sales and marketing manager Raymond Domingo.

“It is nature’s answer to hair loss,” says Mae Velilla, president and CEO of NutraMedica. Novuhair is made from all-natural ingredients, including moringa oleifera, panax ginseng, virgin coconut oil, as well as the essential oils of rosemary, peppermint, and lavender.

â€œCollectively, these ingredients help improve blood circulation and increase nutrient flow to the scalp,” Domingo points out. Moringa oleifera, commonly known as malunggay, helps restore the skin’s condition and prevents falling hair. Lavender helps relieve itching and, like rosemary, contains properties that help combat dandruff and disinfect the scalp.

Another ingredient, lemongrass, helps clean the scalp’s pores, while peppermint is known to slow the growth of bacteria and fungi. Sweet almond oil, a moisture-rich oil that contains vitamins A, B1, B6, and E, as well as minerals such as magnesium and iron, easily penetrates the hair shaft and follicles, relieving hair dryness and itching while providing nourishment to the hair to promote hair growth.

“Often, we do not notice our thinning hair,” Domingo observes. “Novuhair can be used even before that happens.”

While it is not a life-threatening condition, loss of hair or baldness can affect one’s self esteem. It has a number of causes, including aging, genetics, illness, some medications, malnutrition, or an autoimmune disorder such as alopecia areata.

“There are more chances of someone getting alopecia areata if there is a family history,” says Dr. Rica Mallari of the Philippine Dermatological Society. “However, it is not infectious as no organisms are involved. Though inconclusive, extreme stress is said to trigger the condition in genetically susceptible individuals.”

“If Novuhair works for an extreme case, as it did for me, what more for those with common hair loss,” says Abby. “You can try it for yourself.”

Abby is the newest brand ambassador of Novuhair, alongside TV host and health and wellness advocate Kim Atienza. Past endorsers include hairdresser Fanny Serrano, beauty queen Gwendolyn Ruais, and athlete Andrew Wolff.

“We at Novuhair are very happy to welcome Abby to our growing family. We are very happy for her as she triumphs over alopecia areata. Her testimonial is more than enough proof of our product’s efficacy,” notes Velilla.

A decrease in hair loss can be noticed after only one week of use. Hair growth becomes evident with regular use of the product. Once desired results are achieved, Novuhair may still be used for hair and scalp maintenance, Domingo notes.

In response to the growing demand from its users both here and abroad, Novuhair is now available in a special 2-in-1 Plus One pack, a combo inclusive of Novuhair Shampoo, Topical Scalp Lotion, plus an additional bottle of Novuhair Shampoo.

For Abby, it’s been a journey, she says. God opened doors for her. She took a leap of faith. “Indeed,” she says, “one must never give up hope.”

Novuhair Topical Scalp Lotion is available at all Mercury Drug Stores and other leading drug stores nationwide as an individual purchase, part of a combo pack that includes a bottle of Novuhair Herbal Shampoo, and a 3-in-1 pack that includes the herbal shampoo and herbal conditioner.
