Ready, set, decorate!

Judges of the 9th Goldilocks Intercollegiate Cake Decorating Challenge are Goldilocks president Richard Yee, chef Penk Ching, chef Aileen Anastacio, Pauleen Chang-Afable, Goldilocks ambassador Judy Ann Santos and Michael Go.

MANILA, Philippines - Six teams from colleges across the nation went head-to-head in the 9th Goldilocks Intercollegiate Cake Decorating Challenge (ICDC).

Western Institute of Technology-Iloilo won first place in the Fondant Wedding Cake category, as well as becoming overall champion. The school will take the traveling trophy back with them to the Visayas for the second year in a row.

Styled after the television show Iron Chef, all contestants were onstage simultaneously and given five hours to design, build and decorate two cakes for judging. The teams this year vied for not only the trophy and the prestige, but also a baking lab worth P250,000 for their school and P20,000 worth of Goldilocks gift certificates. After a pre-selection round, schools that qualified for the live kitchen-stage were Far Eastern University, Pangasinan State University, St. Anne College of Lucena, Gabriel Taborin College of Davao, and Polytechnic University of the Philippines, which won first place in the Debut Cake category.

ICDC judge Penk Ching noted: “Goldilocks and Avoset have really created something that culinary arts students aspire for, and competing on the kitchen stage at this level really validates all their hard work.”

Penk Ching is joined by Aileen Anastacio, Michael Go of Rich’s Products (distributors of Avoset in the Philippines), Yummy magazine editor in chief Pauleen Chang-Afable, and Goldilocks brand ambassador Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo.

“The growing success of the Goldilocks Intercollegiate Cake Decorating Challenge is so inspiring,” said Goldilocks marketing director Cherry Caluya. “As cake and pastry arts gain more acceptance and prominence in the country, you can be sure that Goldilocks will continue to do its part in promoting these disciplines at the student level.”
