How the Sexy Chef helped Nino Alejandro shape up for ‘Full Monty’

MANILA, Philippines -To help get ready for the big reveal for his role in Full Monty Nino Alejandro turned to celebrity cousins — theater veteran, Rachel Alejandro, and the sexy chef Barni Alejandro — to put him on a good diet program and get him ready to “bare all.”  Through their diet, nutrition, and lifestyle company, The Sexy Chef, Rachel and Barni knew they could find the perfect program for their cousin. Nino wanted to shed some pounds and did not have a lot of time to do it plus he faced some physical limitations. “I was physically limited by an old sports injury from doing really heavy exercise so I really needed to rely on a good diet to help get ready for the show,” Nino shares.

The cast of Full Monty Mark Bautista, Jaime Wilson, Marco Sison, Arnel Ignacio, Nino and OJ Mariano. The show runs until May 5 at the Carlos P. Romulo Theater, RCBC Plaza, Makati City.

The Sexy Chef put him on their Sugar Buster Diet Program. The program is designed especially for clients who have type 2 diabetes or a stubborn midsection who want to whittle down their waists. Adapted for The Sexy Chef by US certified nutritionist and weight loss expert, Nadine Tengco, the Sugar Buster Diet features recipes using all-natural ingredients containing the fat-fighting four ingredients of Omega 3s, fiber, calcium, and vitamin D. While on the program, Nino enjoyed dishes like herb chicken and Asian fried rice, lentil soup, malunggay frittatas, and more.

In just a little over a month, Nino was able to successfully shed over 14 pounds and keep his energy levels up for all the rigorous rehearsals.  “It was the perfect program for me,” Nino shares. “The meals were filling and delicious, and I didn’t feel low on energy so I could still get in some light running and biking.”

So does he feel ready to bare all? “I’m definitely more prepared now than I was a few months ago,” Nino admits with a laugh.

Full Monty, directed by Chari Arespacochaga, runs until May 5 at the Carlos P. Romulo Theater, RCBC Plaza, Makati City. Based on the movie of the same title, the musical has a book by multi-awarded Terrence McNally with music and lyrics by David Yazbek.

The musical is set in Buffalo. New York, where six unemployed mill workers come up with a radical idea for making some quick desperately needed money — putting on a one-night strip show at a local club. The show chronicles their hilarious journey to the “full monty” and shows their courage, liberation, and true friendship formed along the way.

Joining the cast in his theatrical debut is singer, songwriter, and record producer Nino Alejandro. A respected music producer and performer Nino is known for his fun glam rock shows all over the city and is no stranger to performing. However, this is his first foray into professional theater. “I was really excited to be a part of this show, it was daunting though because it’s my first time on the professional theater stage, and I have to take my clothes off!”
