One of the best things about a new year is starting fresh. It is the perfect opportunity to try new things, venture into new opportunities, and create a new look!
These are the hair trends that will dominate 2017, as deemed by Harper’s Bazaar and Elle, and it wouldn’t hurt to try them.
• Super sleek. The number-one hairstyle this year will be that super-sleek and classy, straight, center-parted, one-length-cut hair. So girls, get your straightening irons out! Remember that this hairstyle only works if your hair is healthy, shiny and straight — hence the word “sleek.” Make sure not to fry your hair, as this will only make it brittle, frizzy and not shiny at all. A great trick is using a hair mask so you don’t damage your hair and it keeps that shine.
• Flat waves. What are flat waves? As confusing as it sounds, flat waves are created with a flat iron; they are neither bouncy nor beachy. To achieve this look, use your straightening iron to make a dent and keep pulling your hair upwards. Keep repeating this on each section of your hair. The ends of your hair should be straight because this creates the loose and easy look that you are trying to achieve.
• High ponytail. Models strutted down the Brandon Maxwell spring 2017 catwalk with hair swept up into a high ponytail. This hairstyle seems to strut all the way to the streets as well. Whether it is textured waves or stick-straight, this all-the-way-up pony will match practically anything as well as look super-elegant.
• Grow out that shag. As we all know, the lob (long bob) has dominated as the “it” hairstyle for the past two years, usually paired with fringe or bangs. However, everyone knows that awkward stage when you are growing out your bangs and they part in the middle because they are too long to stay on your forehead. Well, this shag hairstyle is one to look out for in 2017.
• Golden blonde. If you have never considered going blonde before, maybe this is the year. Golden blonde is said to be the color for this year. This hair color usually works best for people with warm-toned hair, but can definitely be adjusted for Filipina hair. What makes golden blonde so special is that, depending on the lighting, it can appear blonde or golden brown. If you are planning on going for this hairstyle, I suggest having your stylist do a balayage dyeing technique. This will allow you to have golden hair without having to damage your whole head of hair. Plus, it is the technique they use for most of the Victoria’s Secret models.
Other styling techniques such as braids, the voluminous hair flip and silky, shiny hair are also trending right now. If you feel like you want something new and fresh, changing your hairstyle, even just subtly, is the way to go.
