Scent-sational Christmas gifts

Hi Lucy!

I’d like to gift my mom and brother this Christmas with perfume. The problem is I don’t know which ones to buy. Could you suggest a few trusted brands of yours? My mom doesn’t really go for overpowering scents. My brother, I think, likes something nice and crisp and clean smelling. – Clueless

Your brother might like Polo Sport or Polo Blue, Acca Kappa, Cedro eau de cologne, Inno Sotto Huit or Gendarme. Your mother might appreciate a classic like Chanel, Anick Goutal, Ester Lauder’s Pleasures or something from Bulgari, Acca Kappa Calycanthus EDT, Laura Mercier Eau de Lune or Chanel Chance. DKNY Be Delicious or Tommy True Star is okay for 20- to 40-year-olds. Beyond Paradise of Estee Lauder caters to the 30- to 50-year-old bracket. All these have scents for both men and women. Offhand though, I would really recommend something from Jo Malone, but it is not available here yet. You will have to get it abroad. Go to Rustan’s Department Store and Rustan’s Essenses. You will find something there for sure. – Lucy
Embattled Neck
Dear Tingting,

I have a rather short neck. How I wish I had the neck of a swan! I feel awkward dressing up because of my short neck. What can I wear that will not emphasize my neck? – In The Neck Of Time

You can actually make your short neck an asset by wearing V-necklines, turtlenecks or high, ruffled blouses. Accessorize with long or short necklaces. Never wear round necklines. – Tingting
Footnote
Dear Mary,

I’m 30 and have been suffering from sweaty feet since I was in high school. I tried soaking my feet in warm water and tawas, but it didn’t work. I love wearing sandals, but the sweat invites dust and it’s really annoying. – Helen

There is a wonderful foot deodorant that prevents feet from sweating or smelling bad. It’s called Fissan. Be sure your feet are clean and dry before applying Fissan liberally on the soles and between the toes of your feet. Fissan is available at most drug stores. – Mary
