Carmencita Aspiras returns to Manila to perform, launch book

Expat pianist and author Carmencita Sipin Aspiras

MANILA, Philippines - The Cultural Arts Events Organizer (CAEO) presents Carmencita Sipin Aspiras’ one-night piano concert on Nov. 23, 7 p.m., at the Ayala Museum. She will perform the works of Mozart, Chopin and Schumann’s epic Fantasy in C. The concert coincides with the launch of her memoir At the Piano and Beyond.

Born in the Philippines, she was first taught by her mother. At 11, she was the youngest student enrolled at the UP Conservatory of Music under Juan Banez.  When Banez left for the US, Carmencita studied with National Artist Lucrecia Kasilag who was the dean of Philippine Women’s University College of Music. At 17, she graduated with honors and hailed as one of the most outstanding talents in the country.

The Music Promotion Foundation of the Philippines, a government agency designed to develop and promote music in the Philippines, awarded Aspiras a scholarship grant to study at the prestigious Vienna Avademy of Music in Austria where she earned her Concert Artist’s Diploma.  Her teachers include Bruno Seidlhofer (the teacher of Martha Argerich, Nelsom Freire, Friedrich Gulda, Daniel Baremboim, to name a few), Grete Hinterhofer and Richard Hauser. She also studied with legendary Magda Tagliaferro at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and in Nice, France. She has performed widely in Europe and recorded for radio networks, including Radio Vienna, Radio Graz, Sueddesutscher Rundfunk and RIAS Berlin.
