MANILA, Philippines - The Banglos Sculptors recently mounted “The Art of Nation-Building” at Le Soufflé, ground floor, Amorsolo Square, Rockwell Center, Makati City.
The show features sculptural creations by the artist group from the PLDT-Smart Amazing Gawad Kalinga Village in Gen. Nakar, Quezon, as well as artworks by Francis “Manch” Carpio. Proceeds from the sale will be used in funding Gawad Kalinga’s upcoming projects.
The Banglos Sculptors artist group was born after fishermen and farmers in Barangay Bangos in Gen. Nakar, Quezon turned to driftwood sculpture as an alternative form of livelihood at the initiative of Smart Communications Inc. and the Gawad Kalinga Foundation.
Under the tutelage of sculptor Rey Paz Contreras, the Banglos Sculptors have been able to hone their skills and hold exhibits in various venues across the country, including the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the National Museum in Manila, Cebu, Bacolod, and Quezon. Their artworks are also available at SM’s Kultura Pilipino section.
The exhibit was presented by Le Soufflé in cooperation with the Gawad Kalinga Foundation.
