MANILA, Philippines — Emergency maintenance teams have secured the EDSA-Magallanes flyover in Makati after stolen components caused falling debris, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.

Metal expansion joint parts were pilfered, leaving structural gaps that led to localized damage, probers said on Wednesday.

Protective safety nets beneath the flyover were installed and temporary steel plates were placed over damaged expansion joints, the DPWH said.

Repair works are scheduled today until Aug. 24, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

The MMDA said the project covers the removal of the existing expansion joints to install new ones on the southbound lane of the flyover.

“We request everyone’s understanding while the agency carries out the repairs,” the DPWH said.
