Couple dies in Maguindanao fire

The fatalities, Basco Abdulgani and his wife Noraisa, were trapped in one of the commercial stalls gutted by the fire, according to Capt. Steffi Salanguit, spokesperson for the Bangsamoro police.

COTABATO, Philippines — A couple died in a fire that destroyed a market in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao del Sur before dawn yesterday.

The fatalities, Basco Abdulgani and his wife Noraisa, were trapped in one of the commercial stalls gutted by the fire, according to Capt. Steffi Salanguit, spokesperson for the Bangsamoro police.

The fire reportedly started at a store selling liquefied petroleum gas and spread quickly to nearby stalls.

Firefighters said the victims were charred beyond recognition.
