TV5 targets an even wider audience with new programming lineup
It was a rainy afternoon of surprises, reunions and a healthy dose of nostalgia as TV5 rolled out its latest programming offerings during its “Midyear Media and Trade Celebration” at the MVP Studio in Mandaluyong last Aug. 6.
Members of the press and advertising community gathered for an exclusive preview of what’s in store on the network, with Kapatid stars taking turns onstage to talk about their shows, reveal what viewers can look forward to and, in some cases, show off their new looks.
The festivities got off to an energetic start at 3 p.m. with a production number by the Block 1 artists of Star Worx. Carmela Lorzano, Celyn David, Kaitlyn King, Keisha Serna, Marthena Jickain, Nathalie Apollo, Rahil Gatali, Selina Griffin, Steph Razon, Adam Buck, Amo Wilding, Chan Martin, Nico Matugas, Patrick Ballesteros, Spencer Capistrano and Wayne Leonard. They got the crowd moving with a medley of Sumayaw Sumunod, Oh Na Na and Fendi 2.
Guido Zaballero, TV5 president and CEO, welcomed the guests and highlighted the value of the network’s renewed partnership with ABS-CBN, which he said would give more Filipinos access to TV5’s growing lineup of programs.
“Our partnership is built on a simple belief: when great stories reach more people, everyone benefits — our audiences, our creators, our advertisers and partners, and ultimately our industry,” Zaballero said.
Hosts Dimples Romana and Andrei Felix — both part of “Gud Morning Kapatid” — were at the helm of the celebration and introduced their show’s new chapter. Starting today, the morning program takes on a new name: “Frontline Umaga,” airing weekdays from 5:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. Dimples and Andrei will be joined by Angela Lagunzad-Castro, Maoi David, Chiqui Roa-Puno, Tito Alvin Oura, Doc Richard Gadiaza and veteran broadcaster Ed Lingao.
The revamped program promises to blend hard news with human-interest stories and lifestyle features, offering viewers a more rounded way to start their mornings. But that wasn’t the only familiar program getting a makeover.
Korina Sanchez-Roxas took the stage to introduce the new “Face to Face with Ate Koring.” Once known for its confrontational reality-TV format, the program has evolved into a daytime talk show that focuses on inspiring stories and public service. And for fans who have missed her signature brand of storytelling, Sanchez-Roxas had another surprise: “Rated Korina” is making its return to TV5.
Music also took center stage as “Vibe Plus” celebrated its first anniversary. Directed by Johnny Manahan, the musical show features live performances from some of the country’s top performers. Its hosts — Dylan Menor, Ana Ramsay, Carmela Lorzano, Queenay, Joao Constancia, Ryle Santiago and Gigi de Lana — have helped give the program its youthful and energetic personality.
From music and talk, the afternoon moved into TV5’s narrative offerings.
One of the most talked-about segments featured “A Secret in Prague,” starring Enrique Gil and Andrea Brillantes. The series has already made its mark after landing among the Top 10 titles on Netflix Philippines.
But it was Andrea’s appearance onstage that caught particular attention. The former child star has certainly come a long way. Now sporting a decidedly more mature image, Andrea drew admiring looks from the audience and revealed an interesting behind-the-scenes detail: except for shots that show her tumbling, she performs her own stunts in the series.
She was joined onstage by fellow Star Worx artists Cedrick Juan, Mark Ian, Jericho del Rosario and Monique Vazquez.
Then came “My Bespren Emman,” starring JM de Guzman and Shaina Magdayao. Now part of TV5’s Hapon Champion block, airing weekdays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. after “Eat Bulaga!,” the series revolves around faith, redemption and a mysterious friend named Emman.
When JM and Shaina walked onto the stage, Dimples couldn’t help but notice something different about the leading man. The actor has visibly slimmed down, prompting Dimples to comment on his transformation. JM readily admitted that the weight loss was intentional — he worked hard to achieve the look required for his role.
Shaina, meanwhile, turned heads with her new short hairstyle, which framed her beautiful face and gave her a fresh, youthful look. They were joined by co-stars Zion Cruz and Yasmyne Jill.
If there was one moment that instantly transported everyone back to the 1990s, it was the finale.
Jolina Magdangal took the stage and performed A Million Miles Away, but the nostalgia factor went up several notches when Marvin Agustin joined her, together with Dominic Ochoa and Roxanne Guinoo.
The quartet is reuniting for “Mommy Guard,” an upcoming TV5 series that marks the return of one of the most beloved love teams of the ’90s. The show is scheduled to premiere in the last quarter of the year.
For longtime fans, seeing Jolina and Marvin together again was more than just a TV preview — it was a trip down memory lane. The “Mommy Guard” cast also includes Cedrick Juan, Pearl Gonzalez, Nathalie Apollo, Amo Wilding, Celyn David and Patrick Ballesteros.
And just like that, an afternoon that began with a high-energy dance number ended on a nostalgic note, with TV5 signaling that its next chapter will be defined by stronger programming, renewed partnerships, and a lineup that brings together established stars, rising talents and stories designed to reach an even wider audience.
As Zaballero put it, the network’s commitment goes beyond traditional television: “Across television, digital, or wherever audiences choose to watch, we’re committed to telling stories that inspire, entertain, inform and connect.”
Judging from the lineup unveiled that afternoon, TV5 is making sure there will be plenty to watch — and plenty of reasons for viewers to keep tuning in, wherever they choose to watch.
