ICTSI’s Poland terminal welcomes largest vessel

After infrastructure upgrade

MANILA, Philippines — Recent infrastructure upgrades have enabled International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI)’s container terminal in Poland to handle the largest vessel to call the Gdynia port.

ICTSI said that Baltic Container Terminal (BCT) successfully handled the inaugural call of MSC Venice – the largest and longest vessel to call at the Port of Gdynia.

The 399-meter-long vessel with a capacity of 16,652 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) recently docked at BCT, demonstrating the port’s capability to service the largest container ships operating in the Baltic Sea.

“The arrival of MSC Venice is a defining moment for BCT and the Port of Gdynia. It validates the significant investments made by all stakeholders to accommodate the next generation of larger container ships and reinforces our position as a deep-water gateway port to support Poland’s economic growth,” BCT chief executive officer Patrick Chan said.

Recent upgrades in BCT include the commissioning of new quay cranes and yard equipment.

ICTSI said these investments have significantly expanded the terminal’s operational capabilities and capacity to efficiently handle the largest container vessels in the Baltic Sea.

It said the successful call is likewise a result of years of cooperation with and commitment from numerous partners and all stakeholders involved in the development of the port.

BCT at the Port of Gdynia is a leading container terminal in Poland.

As one of the largest and most modern marine terminals in the Baltic region, BCT has a capacity of over a million TEUs.

The terminal is strategically located within pan-European corridor and railway routes, offering excellent truck and on-dock rail connectivity to Europe’s hinterlands.
