Over 21,000 cops deployed for Uwan rescue, relief efforts

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police has mobilized more than 21,000 personnel across the country to aid rescue and relief operations in areas hit by Super Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-wong).
n a statement Monday, November 11, the PNP said 21,682 police personnel have been deployed nationwide to support ongoing disaster preparedness, evacuation, and relief efforts in provinces affected by Uwan’s onslaught.
“The PNP is also closely coordinating with the Department of the Interior and Local Government, local government units, and other disaster response agencies to ensure timely and organized response efforts,” the agency said.
The PNP added that it deployed an additional 16,628 members of its Reactionary Standby Support Force and 1,566 vehicles to reinforce operations, particularly in Regions 2, 4A, 4B, 5, and 8.
Rescues. Police teams have carried out 62 search, rescue and retrieval operations, resulting in the rescue of 10,112 individuals, according to the PNP.
As of the latest report, 9,853 of the 28,008 designated evacuation centers are currently occupied, sheltering around 443,073 families or more than 1.4 million individuals nationwide.
Affected police stations, personnel. The PNP said that 24 police stations, two headquarters and two vehicles sustained damage during the typhoon. A total of 28 personnel have been reported affected.
As of 11 a.m., Typhoon Uwan was located 135 kilometers west-northwest of Bacnotan, La Union, according to the state weather bureau PAGASA.
Latest data from the Office of Civil Defense showed two fatalities linked to the typhoon.
