ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines —  The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) evacuated and provided medical assistance to a Chinese seafarer who was injured on board a cargo vessel that was sailing along Basilan Strait on Tuesday.

Cmdr. Marco Antonio Gines, chief of the PCG-District South Western Mindanao (DSWM), said the Chinese suffered a laceration while performing his duties on the M/V Voy Trust, a Hong Kong-registered vessel.

Gines said that members of the PCG-DSWM were alerted by the National Maritime Center, which received the vessel’s request for medical evacuation.

The PCG’s BRP Capones responded and evacuated the injured Chinese, who was brought to  the Coast Guard Medical Clinic where he was initially treated.

The seafarer was transfered to a private hospital for further treatment.
