Marcos appoints new Sandigan presiding judge
MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has named Associate Justice Geraldine Faith Abracia Econg as presiding justice of the Sandiganbayan, a court that tries the cases against government officials accused of graft and corruption.
Econg was appointed to the post last Jan. 7, a document released by Malacañang showed.
She succeeded Amparo Cabotaje-Tang, who retired from the judiciary last Nov. 7.
Other posts she handled include presiding judge in Minglanilla, Cebu and presiding judge of the Regional Trial Court Branch 9 in Cebu City.
She was among the nine nominees for Supreme Court associate justice in 2021.
The new Sandiganbayan presiding justice obtained her law degree from University of San Carlos. She is scheduled to retire on Aug. 6, 2037.
