Military loyal to the Constitution – AFP

MANILA, Philippines — Amid the political tensions and outburst of Vice President Sara Duterte, the military remains loyal to the Constitution, an official of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) assured senators yesterday

Lt. Gen. Jimmy Larida, deputy chief of staff of the AFP, gave assurance to the Commission on Appointments as he and 21 other AFP officials faced the CA.

During yesterday’s proceedings at the CA committee on national defense, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada asked Larida whether “there was any grumbling in the military at present due to the recent events.”

The AFP official responded: “One hundred percent none, sir.”

Estrada was apparently referring to Duterte’s statement that she had contracted a hitman to kill President Marcos, First Lady Liza and Speaker Martin Romualdez in case she is murdered.

Estrada emphasized the importance of allegiance, reminding Larida of the military’s constitutional duty, to which the officer replied affirmatively.

Estrada’s inquiry comes amid heightened political tension, highlighting the role of the military in maintaining stability and upholding its constitutional mandate.

The CA approved the promotions of Larida and the 21 military officials, including Estrada’s younger brother, Brig. Gen. Jude Ejercito.
