Palace: November 29 not a holiday
MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has not declared Nov. 29 (Friday) a holiday, the Office of the Executive Secretary (OES) clarified yesterday.
“No movement of the holiday,” the OES told reporters in a text message, in response to queries on whether the Palace moved the Nov. 30 holiday to Nov. 29.
Nov. 30 or Bonifacio Day commemorates the birth of national hero Andres Bonifacio.
Bonifacio Day is a regular holiday in the country.
In 2023, Bonifacio Day was commemorated on Nov. 27, as part of the “holiday economics” strategy of the government.
The Marcos administration adopted the principle of holiday economics through Proclamation 90, which adjusted some holidays in 2023.
President Marcos had said the adjustments were meant to encourage domestic tourism and to give Filipinos time to be with their families.
Born on Nov. 30, 1863 in Tondo, Manila, Andres Bonifacio is widely recognized as “The Father of the Philippine Revolution.”
