MANILA, Philippines — Workers nationwide may opt to enjoy a long holiday break or hefty pay this Holy Week.

Employees who choose to work today, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday are entitled to double their regular daily pay, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

This double pay applies to the first eight hours of work and an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate for overtime work, the DOLE said in an advisory.

Workers whose rest day falls during the holiday break shall receive 230 percent for the first eight hours of work.

On top of the 230 percent, they will also get an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate for work done beyond eight hours.

Workers taking a holiday break are still entitled to get their regular daily pay.

On Black Saturday, the DOLE stressed that the “no work, no pay” principle shall apply.

Those who will not report for work on Saturday will not be paid unless there is a favorable company policy, practice or collective bargaining agreement granting payment on a special day.

Since Black Saturday is a non-regular holiday, workers who opt to report for work shall only receive an additional 30 percent of the daily rate.

Workers who will be required to work on their rest day shall be paid 150 percent of the daily rate for the first eight hours of work and an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate for overtime work.
