MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine STAR’s fund drive for families affected by the ongoing unrest of Taal Volcano has reached P665,000 following donations and pledges sent in yesterday to Operation Damayan, the social arm of the Philstar Media Group.

Adding to the initial P500,000 sent in by regular Damayan donors to kick off the fund drive were the following donations: P100,000 from Felix Ang of CATS Motors; P50,000 from Kenneth and Chiaoling Lao; P10,000 from STARWeek Magazine and P5,000 from Jemlim.

The STAR thanks Asia Brewery president Michael Tan for pledging his support for the Taal relief effort through a donation of Absolute Distilled Drinking Water, which is much needed by evacuee-families.

Also coming in was a donation of 28 boxes of masks from Dr. Elizabeth Lee Chuy.

The STAR is looking to raise enough funds to assist 2,000 families in affected barangays in Batangas province. As of DOST-PHIVOLCS’ 1 p.m. update yesterday, Taal Volcano remained on Alert Level 4.
