MANILA, Philippines — Two Filipino seafarers and six other crewmembers of a Greek-flagged oil tanker were kidnapped on New Year’s Eve in Cameroon in sub-Saharan Africa, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed yesterday.
Armed men reportedly attacked on Dec. 31 the oil tanker Happy Lady in the port of Limbe.
“The Philippine embassy in Abuja, which has jurisdiction over Cameroon, is coordinating with relevant authorities to ensure safety and security of the Filipino seafarers,” the DFA said in a statement, assuring the public of its close monitoring of the incident.
