MANILA, Philippines - The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has announced a vacancy forthcoming at the Court of Appeals (CA) with the retirement of Associate Justice Francisco Acosta on April 2, 2017.

On its social media account, the JBC posted that Acosta has been in private law practice since 1972, until he was appointed CA associate justice.

Acosta graduated magna cum laude from the San Beda College with a degree in AB Philosophy. He finished law in the same school in 1971 and earned a silver medal for ranking fifth in his class.

He passed the bar exams that same year and immediately engaged in private practice.

In the succeeding years, Acosta established, along with his colleagues, several law offices, the last of which is the Acosta & Fernandez Law Office.

He served as consultant for the Philippine National Oil Co. and of the House committees on energy, corporation and franchises, and worked as instructor at the Philippine School of Business Administration.

Justice Acosta is currently vice president and board member of San Beda Law Alumni, member of the ASEAN Law Association and the Rotary Club of Fairview.

He is married to the former Alma Madayag, with whom he has four children – April Ma. Bernadette, Ma. Franchette, Earl Brian and Francis Nikolai.
