MANILA, Philippines – After filing the motion for reconsideration to attend the late actor German “Kuya Germs” Molino Moreno’s wake, detained Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr.’s request was once again denied by the Sandiganbayan.
In his urgent motion, Revilla reasoned out compassion and humanitarian consideration, reiterating his closeness to Moreno that is why he feels obliged to pay his last respect. However, the Sandiganbayan First Division composed of Chair Efren dela Cruz, Associate Justices Rafael Lagos and Rodolfo Ponferrada maintained its former decision to not allow Revilla to attend as it is not considered a “special circumstance.”
“The Court is not inclined to reverse its earlier ruling, there being no other ground cited by the accused-movant in his present motion, aside from those already previously cited and considered by the Court. In view thereof, the Urgent Motion for reconsideration is hereby DENIED,” the resolution read.
The same division rejected Revilla’s request on Tuesday.
Revilla came to the court on Tuesday with an urgent motion for reconsideration to be granted a five-hour furlough for Moreno’s wake. Moreno will be be laid to rest at the Loyola Memorial Park, Marikina City on Thursday, January 14.
“He lost a dear friend and mentor in German “Kuya Germs” Molina Moreno, to whom he consistently relied upon for guidance and comfort and who, in more ways than one, has unconditionally helped and cared for him and his family,” the motion read.
Like Revilla, Sen. Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada, also detained for plunder charges, was barred by Sandiganbayan from attending Moreno’s wake.
The two senators are currently detained at the Philippine National Custodial Center in Camp Crame over their plunder case.
