EU vows to support Mindanao peace process

MANILA, Philippines - The European Union (EU) pledged to continue its support for the peace process in Mindanao.

EU Ambassador to the Philippines Guy Ledoux expressed their commitment during the launch of the "Primer on the Proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law" on Friday.

"The Primer on the Bangsamoro Basic Law is a tool which can be used to organise conversation, debate and dialogue with all the stakeholders... It will help to describe, explain and clarify the various eapects of the law and how this will affect the everyday life of the Bangsamoro people," Ledoux said on his message.

Ledoux noted that the purpose of the Primer was to facilitate the understanding of the basic principles of the 2012 Framework Peace Agreement.

A total of 58,000 copies of the Primer were printed in six languages.

"The Bangsamoro Basic Law may be just another piece of legislation for most of the Filipinos and most of the Congressmen, however for the Moros it is much more. The Bangsamoro is the promise and hope of a better life for themselves, their children and their children's children," Baangsamoro Transition Commission Chair Mohagher Iqbal said during the BBL hearing in the Lower House.

The EU Ambassador said that through transparency, the objective of inclusiveness will be achieved which will result in a sustainable peace settlement.
