MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Jejomar Binay's political foe, Sen. Antonio "Sonny" Trillanes IV, is giving him until November 22 to set the date for their face-off.

Trillanes claimed Monday that Binay's camp has not fully cooperated with the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) on the preparations for the debate.

"Ngayon, nakikipag-coordinate ang KBP sa kanila, ayaw nilang magpatali sa isang petsa, inuusog nang inuusog," Trillanes said in an interview with dzMM.

He said that once the November 22 deadline has passed, he will refuse to honor his previous agreement with Binay to hold the debate.

"[Kapag] wala silang naitaling petsa hanggang sa umabot na 'yan, ibig sabihin, hindi mo talaga mapagkakatiwalaan itong si Vice President Binay," Trillanes said. "Magsasalita ito pero hindi naman niya tutuparin."

Binay challenged Trillanes last month to a debate where the Vice President is expected to answer corruption allegations against him brought up in the Senate Blue Ribbon subcommittee hearing.

Having refused an invitation by the subpanel to air his side in the hearings, Binay's camp insisted that it is not the right forum for the Vice President.

Trillanes believes that the Vice President is not busy enough to make time for the debate.

"Anyway nagiikot-ikot ka lang naman sa iba't ibang palengke e. Palagay ko, mas importante ito sa'yo," Trillanes said over the radio, addressing Binay. - Camille Diola
