MANILA, Philippines - The names of victims of abuses during martial law will be enshrined in the “Roll of Victims of Human Rights Violations†to be endorsed to the Memorial Commission that is tasked to establish a museum featuring their stories of heroism, the Human Rights Victims’ Claims Board said.
“The stories will be accessible to government agencies and different institutions so that the lessons from the traumatic experiences of Martial Law will serve as reminders to the present and future generation of what these victims have achieved for our society today,†said Human Rights Victims’ Claims Board chairperson Lina Sarmiento.
She also stressed that the freedom Filipinos now enjoy and the further push for human rights were borne from the sweat, tears and blood of the Filipinos who fought for democracy during martial law.
Earlier, the Claims Board announced that it was ready to accept claims for reparations and recognition from victims of human rights abuses starting on Monday.
