MANILA, Philippines - The crowd at the EDSA Shrine ballooned to over 1,000 after members of militant groups joined the "EDSA Tayo" prayer vigil on Wednesday afternoon.
Members of Migrante International and Courage joined the crowd at the Shrine at around 2:30 p.m. after marching from Ortigas Avenue.
Some of the marchers raised placards calling for the abolition of the pork barrel system.
They were blocked by policemen inside the Shrine premises to allow the traffic flow along Ortigas Avenue.
Garry Martinez of Migrante International said they will call for a “zero remittance day†on September 19, in another protest against the pork barrel fund.
Earlier, members of the group Sanlakas managed to evade policemen and put a large" Scrap All Pork" banner on the side of the Ortigas flyover.
