Heavy rains continue for 5th day in Luzon

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Moderate to heavy rainfall is still expected to continue over parts of Metro Manila until before noon Thursday, the state weather bureau warned.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) extended its Yellow Rainfall Warning at 7:30 a.m.

It said moderate to heavy rainfall will continue over Camanava (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela), Manila, Pasay City and Quezon City for the next three hours.

Other areas in Luzon will also continue to experience torrential rains (heavy to intense) particularly in the already flooded provinces of Pampanga, Bulacan, Bataan and Zambales.

"Flooding in low-lying areas may still prevail," PAGASA said.

Tropical Storm "Maring" left the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday morning, but it continues to enhance the southwest monsoon, which is bringing rains over Luzon.

PAGASA said that Central Luzon, Ilocos region, Cordillera and Metro Manila will experience monsoon rains throughout the day.

It warned the residents in the four regions against flashfloods and landslides.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has already counted 16 deaths from the monsoon rains, which started since Sunday.

More than a million people have also been affected, majority of them displaced, due to the flooding caused by the non-stop rains.
