Rhodina Villanueva - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The new head of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Claro Maranan assumed his post yesterday.

Maranan took over the post vacated by Antonio Nangel, whose appointment ended on June 30.

Maranan, in his acceptance speech at the turnover ceremony, said he means business and that he would start working on his first day in office.

Meanwhile, Nangel said he is humbled and grateful for the opportunity that President Aquino gave him to streamline the operations at the agency and implement the rice and food self-sufficiency targets of the government.

Nangel said that he is satisfied with his performance in the last three years, particularly the agency’s contribution in achieving the targets of the Food Staples Sufficiency Program (FSSP).
