DOLE taps social network sites for Labor Day activities

MANILA, Philippines -  The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has gone “techie” to facilitate employment and make workers aware of all the programs and services available to them.

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said DOLE is utilizing social networks to update the public, particularly workers, on activities and services scheduled on May 1.

Baldoz said that on Labor Day, DOLE would be launching its official social network accounts on Facebook and Twitter in an effort to inform the public about activities for the day and make the agency more accessible to jobseekers and workers.

“Through Facebook and Twitter, jobseekers, for instance, will know that they need to pre-register with Phil-JobNet through which they will be pre-screened by employers who will participate at the Job and Livelihood Fair on Labor Day,” Baldoz said.

“This will give them a higher chance of landing a job when they present themselves to the participating employers during the job fair,” Baldoz added.

Baldoz urged all jobseekers to pre-register for the nationwide job and livelihood fair during the Labor Day celebration.

She said the DOLE’s Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) has already opened its online pre-registration through its job search and matching system, the Phil-JobNet.

“We invite jobseekers to log on to Phil-JobNet and make themselves available to our roster of employers, who are expected to bring about 30,000 job vacancies to the job and livelihood fair,” she said.

Over 150 local employers and 50 private agencies will be opening tens of thousands of jobs for both local and overseas employment for various skills during the job and livelihood fair.

All interested job applicants may log on to www.phil-job.net to pre-register. The job fair link can also be accessed through DOLE’s official website at www.dole.gov.ph <http://www.dole.gov.ph>. The online registration period will be until April 30.
