New Navy chief named

President Arroyo named yesterday Rear Admiral Ernesto de Leon as Philippine Navy flag officer-in-command.

De Leon, now Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) deputy chief for plans, will replace Vice Admiral Victorino Hingco, who will retire on March 6.

The Palace Press Office said the President’s appointment of the new Navy chief was based on the recommendations made by Defense Secretary Angelo Reyes and the AFP board of generals. Marichu Villanueva, AFP
