eats newly born baby

CEBU - This is literally a case of dog eats man.

A baby girl in San Fernando was snatched and eaten by a stray dog minutes after she was born.

Police officer Perlita Lum-bab of the San Fernando police's women's desk said the remains of the baby of Riza Ginayas, 25, a single mother of Upper Laguna, Greenhills, were found bloodied and torn apart a few meters from the hut where she was born.

According to Lumbab, Ginayas fell asleep after giving birth to the baby unassisted last Tuesday afternoon.

Lumbab said Ginayas saw the baby, but was not able to hear her cry. She fell asleep due to exhaustion.

When Ginayas woke up two hours later, she discovered to her horror that her baby was gone.

Despite the pain, Ginayas managed to go out of the hut and asked neighbors if they had seen her baby.

A barangay councilman told Ginayas she noticed a stray dog dragging something bloody hours earlier.

When they found the baby in the bushes, it was already headless and without limbs.

Police investigator Nicerato Suarez said the baby's body bore several wounds apparently from dog bites and a big portion of the intestines was missing.

Local officials took Ginayas to the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for treatment. They also buried the baby.

Suarez suspected that Ginayas, who is jobless, may have attempted a crude method of abortion.

But the attending gynecologist at the VSMMC said Ginayas had normal delivery even if unassisted.
